Dealing with oppression, freedom and power, Unfun is at once disturbing and highly entertaining, introducing Faldbakken as a daring new voice in contemporary fiction. Acclaimed Norwegian artist Matias Faldbakken (b. 1973), unanimously hailed as the freshest new voice to emerge in Norwegian literature during the past decade, made his literary debut in 2001, with the much praised and award-winning The Cocka Hola Company – Scandinavian Misanthropy I. Two years later, it was followed by the equally critically acclaimed and vividly debated Macht und Rebel – Scandinavian Misanthropy II. Unfun is his latest novel. Unfun is out in July in English translation.

Mis-Fit

I'm going to be doing another sound based performance this week (Thursday after 6 for the opening) as part of a group show called MisFit, this will be a less structured piece more of an improvised performance with electronics, if your in Dublin come check it out.

‘MisFit’ an exhibition of works by international artists to take place from the 29th of April to the 2nd of May at The Dublin Art Mill, Mill Street, Dublin 8.

This exhibition brings together for the first time over 20 of Europe’s freshest contemporary artists whose work, although diverse in style and medium, has been carefully knitted together under the umbrella term ‘Mis-Fit’. Curated by Polish artist Patryk Starzykowski and Niamh Murphy (Straylight/ Darklight Film Festival), visitors to the exhibition which runs over the May Bank Holiday weekend can expect to see performances, paintings, videos and installations, in a celebration of all that is ‘subversive’, ‘corrupted’ and ‘in-between’.

The International element to the show is a reflection of current trends within the Irish art world; encouraged by the increasing availability of exhibition and studio space Ireland is beginning to become a viable destination for European Artists to set up base: a potential positive outcome of the otherwise gloomy recession.

Speaking about the exhibition the curators describe how; ‘we have searched for artists whose work when displayed collectively would challenge the very notion of a themed exhibition. In the art gallery as in society as a whole there are certain rules we must conform to, certain boundaries, the idea is that art could be used as a tool to deconstruct these notions or at the very least open up some kind of dialogue’

Featured artists include: John Kenny, Anna Nitchaeff, Samson Guyomard, Laura Burke, Alexandra Bodea, Joan Healy, Paraic Leahy, Leo Boyd, Heather Gray, Pearl Heneghan, and Jenny Keane and many others. ( i guess im part of others) ps check out Joan Healy's work click the pink go on!
